Her — about a future where Siri-style virtual assistants with artificial intelligence are so advanced that a man fell in love with his — was set in 2025

Our industry has some of the best thinkers, leaders and dreamers around. We get paid to think, lead and dream. Yet our community considers faster internet, business tax changes and next hour delivery more of a priority than flat wages, free speech and global warming.

Whenever I come across articles like ‘Design in 20 something’, I feel let down by our community, who put short-term success ahead of longterm gain. We focus more on branding, consumer cycles and touch-points, instead of the topics that will define our existence. Automation, Energy, Health, Resources, Food, Human Rights, Equality, Free Speech, Privacy and Rules of Law.

COVID-19 has highlighted how useless some of our jobs are. We are a world of 7.7 billion humans with a shared metabolism, and the events of the past few months highlight how fragile life is. The world is about to lose 2% of its population and nature is fighting back.

We’re branding ‘The United States Space Force’ but ignoring the 5 tons of carbon dioxide a shuttle launch produces per month. But it’s ok, I’ll just eat less meat. We live in a contradiction.

George Takei tweeted the two logos side by side with the caption: “There is nothing sacred any more.”
